Hello! My name is Sian Shrimpton, and I’m a designer, illustrator and letterer based in Hertfordshire. I’m currently working freelance and looking for other freelance positions.
When I’m not in the studio or doodling away on my sofa, you’ll find me behind my camera, dancing in our kitchen, practicing yoga or at the Theatre. I have a slight obsession with stationery and pens and a weakness for tea, cake, flat whites and chocolate.
Ever since I can remember, I’ve always loved to draw. Even in nursery, you’d always find me with a crayon in my hand. When all the other children were playing in the park and climbing trees, I was either in a dance class or indoors drawing. I remember creating a magazine when I was about nine years old, I think it only had two issues and a readership of just my sister and I. It was all created with cut out pieces of paper, drawings and I remember having a few colouring pages for my sister to colour in.
I first heard about Graphic Design when I was about eleven. My Mum worked for a Graphic Designer and I heard about all that they did, I thought that the only way I could have a job that meant I’d still be able to create all day was to be a Graphic Designer when I grew up. So I studied Graphic Design throughout school and into University – loving every second.
Since graduating, I have worked as an art worker and designer, working on everything from annual reports and billboards to web banners and z-cards, from ideas through to final artwork, for a variety of sectors including sports, health care, financial services and charity.
Over the last few years, I have carried a sketchbook with me every where and have developed a love for hand drawn type and illustration. I’d write encouraging notes to myself whilst waiting for another delayed train and draw floral patterns whilst relaxing at the weekend. My husband would regularly ask if I was “doodling again?” and after a while, I had filled a few sketchbooks of these doodles, which included, amongst other things, a lot of drawings, doodles, notes, phrases, ideas and a few penguins for good measure. You’ll find a lot of these here or on my Instagram page.
I am now available for commissions. For more information please either visit my Etsy Shop or contact me at hello [at] sianlouise [dot] co [dot] uk
Here you’ll find snippets of my work, peeks into my sketchbooks and often I’ll share moments from my everyday life.
I started a blog as a University project on 3rd November 2008 to document my research and design work from my degree and since then, the space evolved and grew with me. Then, on one fateful day in September 2016, I updated WordPress to find that my blog was completely gone, a plugin I’d used to back up my site hadn’t worked and I lost nine years worth of blogging. After trying to get it back and failing, I thought that I’d just start again, and here I am. Please bear with me whilst I get this space up and running to hopefully a new and improved space.
I first opened my Etsy Shop in 2010, just after graduating with a degree in Graphic Design. I would create hand painted notecards and stationery for friends and family. I had to stop selling because I found that I didn’t have the time to keep it up with a full time job and a long commute.
I continued to draw fiercely on my long commute and quickly filled many a sketchbook with ideas, drawings and a few penguins for good measure.
Fast forward to 2016 and I have decided to take the leap and open my Etsy shop with all new products.
My work is inspired by bright colours and bold lines. I have a passion for hand drawn lettering and illustration. I put a lot of love into everything that I do and I enjoy every second of it, I hope that my work can put a smile on your face as much as it has mine and add a touch of beauty to your desk or wall.
